Which route do your operators need?
We pre-assess before quoting, so nobody pays for ten days of training they don't need — or turns up to a test they were never going to pass.
No meaningful experience on the machine. NPORS publishes maximum recommended novice durations — up to 10 days for an excavator, 5 for a telehandler or loading shovel, 3 for a dumper or roller.
Operators who use the machine regularly but have never been carded, or whose card has lapsed. Usually one to two days including the test, confirmed by pre-assessment.
Carded operators due a renewal, or a team you want re-baselined after an incident or audit. Length depends on what the pre-assessment finds.
Which card?
NPORS runs three registrations. Which one your operators need depends on where they work, not on the machine.
NPORS Traditional card — 3 or 5 years
For work outside construction — warehousing, ports, agriculture, utilities, offshore. Does not carry the CSCS logo. The health, safety and environment test is optional, as an endorsement.
NPORS-CSCS Trained Operator (red) — 2 years
For construction sites. Issued when an operator passes the category but does not yet hold the NVQ. Requires an NPORS or CITB HS&E test passed within the previous two years. Within the two years the operator works towards the NVQ to move to blue.
NPORS-CSCS Competent Operator (blue) — 5 years
Requires the relevant NVQ/SVQ unit credits for the categories held, and carries a CPD record. The card most main contractors expect from a settled workforce.

Can you train on our machines, on our site?
Yes — that's how we prefer to work. Operators are assessed on the machines, ground and site rules they deal with every day, and nobody loses a day travelling. We also have centres in Liverpool, Skelmersdale and Warrington if you'd rather send one or two people to us.
How quickly can we get operators carded?
Once training and testing are complete, NPORS registration is quick — cards can be turned around within days. Tell us your deadline and we'll tell you honestly whether it's achievable.
Do we need the CSCS logo on the card?
If your operators work on construction sites, almost certainly yes — and that means an NPORS or CITB health, safety and environment test passed within the previous two years. For warehousing, agriculture, ports and utilities the traditional NPORS card is usually enough.
How many operators can you train at once?
NPORS ratios are based on three candidates per instructor and machine, with a maximum of four where a second machine is available. Larger teams are simply run across more days or more instructors.
Can you combine categories in one visit?
Usually, yes — it's the cheapest way to do it. A common combination is a machine category plus slinger/signaller, or an excavator card plus the two-day lifting operations add-on.
