What's covered
Every session is practical, and tailored to the way your team actually works.
- The first aider's role, responsibilities and record keeping
- Scene survey, primary survey and summoning help
- CPR and safe use of an AED
- Choking, external bleeding and shock
- Secondary survey and minor injuries
- Bone, muscle and joint injuries; head and spinal injuries
- Chest injuries, burns, eye injuries and poisoning
- Anaphylaxis and major illnesses including stroke, seizure, asthma and diabetes

How is it assessed?
Seven practical assessments across the course, plus two multiple-choice theory papers — 15 questions on unit one and 25 on unit two. Assessment is continuous, so there is no exam day to dread.
How many first aiders do we need?
That comes out of your first aid needs assessment: your headcount, sector, risks, shift patterns and sites. We'll talk it through and recommend the right mix of First Aid at Work and Emergency First Aid at Work trained staff.
What happens when the certificate expires?
Certificates last three years. Existing first aiders can take a two-day requalification course, provided it is booked before expiry — if a certificate lapsed more than a month ago, the full three-day course is required.
Is annual refresher training needed?
The HSE strongly recommends a short annual refresher between requalifications. We deliver the Qualsafe half-day First Aid at Work Annual Refresher for exactly that.
