What's the difference between Level 2 and Level 3?
Level 2 is a one-day awareness qualification for any employee. Level 3 runs over two days and prepares people to hold the mental health first aider role and support others, including those they supervise.
Does this make someone a counsellor?
No. A mental health first aider offers early support and signposting, in the same way a physical first aider gives initial help before professional care takes over.
How many mental health first aiders should we have?
There's no set ratio in law. Most organisations mirror their physical first aid cover, then adjust for shift patterns, site numbers and risk.
